Catharsis techniques – Just the beginning of Meditation

I HAVE PRACTICED MEDITATION UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF MANY MEDITATION CAMP CONDU-CTORS. IN MEDITATION CAMPS LOT OF STRESS IS LAID ON THE TECHNIQUES OF CATHARSIS. FOR LAST 18 YEARS I WAS STUCK IN THOSE TECHNIQUES. MANY A TIME I ASKED THEM WHAT SHOULD BE DONE AFTER THOSE TECHNI-QUES? THEY ALWAYS GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER, JUST KEEP ON DOING THIS. DO IT WITH MORE ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM. MAY BE YOU ARE STILL LACKING THIRST. YOU HAVE NOT YET DEVELOPED ILLEGIBILITY. HAVE SOME PATIENCE.

FOR ME THE MAIN ATTRACTION OF OSHO DHARA WAS THAT I WILL NOT HAVE TO GET UP AT 6AM FOR ACTIVE MEDITATION, BY DOING WHICH I HAVE HURT MY KNEE JOINTS. AFTER PARTICIPATING IN SAMADHI PRAGYA, AFTER DROW-NING INTO THE DIVINE MUSIC OF OMKAR, I UNDERSTOOD THAT THIRST WAS NOT LACKING WITHIN ME. NEITHER THERE WAS LACK OF CAPABILITY OR ELIGIBILITY. WHAT WAS LACKING WAS INTELLI-GENCE AND EXPERIENCE IN THOSE MEDITATION CONDUCTORS.

FOR LAST TWO YEARS THOSE PEOPLE HAVE STARTED USING INSULTING WORDS FOR OSHO DHARA. WHEN I THINK ABOUT THEM TODAY I GET ANGRY ON THEM AND HAVE SYMPATHY TOO THAT NEITHER THEY HAVE UNDERSTOOD OSHO NOR CAN THEY MAKE OTHERS UNDERSTAND. THEY HAVE WASTED THE PRECIOUS TIME OF SO MANY SEEKERS LIKE ME AND FILLED THOSE SEE-KERS WITH THE ILL FEELING THAT THEY ARE NOT ILLEGIBLE. KINDLY SPEAK ON THIS TOPIC.

FORGIVE ME, MY QUESTION HAS BECOME TOO LONG.

Even you forgive those meditation conductors; as it is the period of 18 years is not too long. You understood it very soon. Thank God for that. There is no need to get angry. Try to understand their problems. They are good people, but have not experienced Samadhi, have not attained enlightenment, so in order to save their esteem they have to say something. They have to abuse Osho-dhara. some poet has said-
‘Kuch toh majburiyan rahi hongi, varna koi bewafa nahi hota.’
Definitely there must be some problems, otherwise nobody can betray without any reason.

Before meditation, definitely catharsis techniques are useful.
It is like the bath of consciousness, but for how long will you keep on bathing? I agree that cleansing is good, but how much and till when? There is a proverb, ‘Cleanliness is nest to Godliness’. For sure I am not against cleanliness, but I want to place it next to Godliness, Cleanliness is not above Godliness. Considering cleanliness greater than Godliness will be a stupidity.
Some crazy people have mental disorder, which is called as ‘Obsessive compulsive Neurosis’ or OCN in the psychiatry. OCN patients develop a habit of washing their hands again and again. They wash their hands for hundred times in a day. I feel that the meditation conductors which you are describing have the disorder of mental bathing – catharsis.

Active Meditations are Cleansing Processes
There is a main collection of Osho’s messages on meditation techniques – ‘Meditation-First and Last Freedom’, where in the first line while describing the basics of Dynamic Meditation and Kundalini Meditation, Osho mentions –

‘Actually it is not a meditation, it is not the music, it is just a preparation. As a matter of fact Kundalini technique is not a meditation. This is just a preparation; you are just setting your musical instrument’.

Tell these meditation camp conductors “O, knowledgeable people; among 650 books of Osho at least read one page, only then go and teach the whole world. What are you preparing for and till when will this preparation go on? You will go on arranging your musical instrument or even music will be played? Do you want to drown in the ultimate music of Omkar or want to tighten the strings of the inner violin and by hitting the drums with the hammer of Catharsis you want to destroy it?’
This declaration of Oshodhara that catharsis is not the meditation has been stated as dangerous. I appreciate their brilliance and far sightedness that they have understood that if it is proved that Dynamic, Kundalini, No mind, Gibberish, Born again and Mystic Rose techniques are not meditation, then what will be the result of their dealing, where whole business is carried on this basis.

Osho has amazing ‘sense of humor’, this is the wonderful example of their humorousness that they named the meditation as ‘Dynamic or Active Meditation’.
Whereas in thousands of discourses he explained that meditation is ‘Passive Awareness’.
It takes so long to understand even the jokes of enlightened people. They did not understand that this dangerous declaration is not made by Oshodhara. It is the declaration by the most brilliant master of the twentieth century Osho himself.
Remember that meditation is just laying the foundation. Omkar – the divine music is sowing the seed, Samadhi is the harvest, enlightenment is the flower and becoming Acharya - a trainer, is spreading the fragrance of compassion.
What will you say about that crazy farmer who goes on digging the farm for 18 years; he is just laying the foundation and has completely forgotten to sow the seeds. What will you say about that housewife who is busy in cleaning the utensils and has completely forgotten to serve her family members? Vessels have been spoiled by such continuous cleansing. I go at different places and come across number of people whose illegibility is secondary matter; those poor people have damaged their container itself.
Won’t you address that person as insane who wishes to dress up and welcome the guest and has entered into bathroom and after 18 years he is being pulled out forcibly? Just think about the guest. God, our guest for whose welcome we are dressing up, even that God may pity our brains; he is waiting for us since so long.

Wasting the Opportunity of Life

The base of practice is negative but its attainment is always positive. Eradicating the collection of useless thoughts and memories, removing the negative feelings like anger and jealousy from mind and throwing them out is just like removing grass, pebbles and stones. It is necessary to go through this important process before sowing seeds. But if a farmer goes on uprooting grass, stones and pebbles and forgets to sow seeds then what will you think about his intelligence?
And remember that there is one specialty of grass that when you will uproot the grass from one corner, by the time you reach the second corner the grass starts growing again in the first corner. This cleaning process will never come to an end. There is Unconscious mind below conscious mind, then comes collective unconscious mind below it and below all is the Cosmic Unconscious mind. No matter even if a person digs for 18 years or 18 births, cleaning does not come to an end. Yes, you will definitely become a sweeper. Most of the people who ever extremely used to the habit of catharsis remained as ‘Catharsis Addict’ – the sweepers. The aim of meditation was to experience the cosmic consciousness and become cosmic consciousness– to make the declaration of- Aham Brahmasami - I am the cosmic consciousness. Unfortunately this has been totally forgotten.

It signifies – that we had been trying meditation so as to come closer to divine residing within each of us but by indulging in these process of preparations we have just remained as workers or cleaners.
In one of his discourses Osho has said that – “I narrated you few things. All were negative statements. But if a gardener wants to plant trees in his garden then he has to uproot the dried plant first, uproot the grass and throw it away, separate pebbles and stones so that the land gets ready, so that new seeds can be sown. So first I tried to break some things, to separate them, so that you can get ready for the things to which I call as seed and if it reaches within, then your life can blossom, there can be some flowering. Some fragrance can spread.

Realize the goal of Life
Every person is born to become a flower, so that fragrance can spread into his life. And the person who passes away without becoming so, there is no gratefulness, no worthwhile ness in his life.
Blessed are those few people who give a chance to their life like a river to flow towards the sea. Fortunate are those people who merge with the ocean like the river does. Only those people can experience the bliss of this completeness, only they can experience the nectar of this life.

This is our birth right, only if we ask for it. But if you don’t ask for it, and even if we ask for it, scream . . . Freedom. . . Freedom and get stuck to some strings that are created by self then who will be responsible for it? Every person is responsible for himself, for his bondages, for his imprisonment and the day he realizes, he will be able to break those prisons. (Osho–Aath pahar yu Jhumte, Chp. # 1).”
It is really surprising that few so called intelligent seekers have made these techniques as their prison. They got rid of old rituals and immediately got trapped into new rituals. Osho used to remind again and again that meditation techniques are like boat. When you are at this side, sail in the boat and when you reach at the other side kindly get down. Some stupid people don’t agree to get into the boat and some other stupid people are not ready to come out of it. Both are mistaken.
Be thankful to those meditation camp conductors who made you free from that trap within 18 years. Few days back I met a gentleman who very proudly said that he has participated in Mystic Rose for ten times. I just told him in a joking way that I have met a person who has participated in this group for 12 times. His ego got hurt and he said - you may not be aware that ‘I have taken the resolution to do it for 21 times’, how can the people be so stupid?
Many people will continue doing catharsis for life long; they won’t come out of this trap whereas they were in the search of meditation. God’s patience is also amazing. He will keep on waiting till you will come when you will get tired of all these practices and rituals.
At a certain place Osho has said that ‘In this world only two things are amazing, one is the stupidity of man and other is the compassion of God’. Even catharsis becomes addiction. If any technique is repeated again and again mind gets used to it. Osho’s whole emphasis is on breaking the mechanism of mind, and we do the technique of breaking the mechanism also mechanically. Whole message comes to an end. It is fine to do it for some days; finally you have to drown into doing nothing; don’t forget this ultimate aim. Catharsis is a kind of mental therapy; it is useful up to a certain limit. My emphasis is just that don’t cross that limit.
Osho has said- “Therapy has nothing to do with spirituality. Once if Mystery Schools start functioning, then these therapists will also have to come to these mystery schools and this time they won’t come as a therapist, they will come as disciples. No therapy will be practiced here now. Now this school will function in a completely different way”. (Beyond psychology, chp– 37).

Oshodhara has now become a mystery school of Osho. Here neither mentally sick people are required, nor the therapists are required. Therefore the meditation camp conductors should not get disappointed. Kindly do your work and allow us to do our work. If any of the people having mental disorder comes here, we ourselves will give him your reference.
Osho has mentioned it clearly – “My people will have to remain alert. This is a mystery school, it is not for everyone. It is only for the people who are ready to stake everything for knowing the truth (The Messiah, Vol. 2, Chp– 23).”

“Now sannyas will be a completely different revolution. It will be for more authentic seekers. Now sannyas will be a school, a mystery school. Who want to develop themselves, who want to transform themselves, only they will enter into it (The Path of Mystic, chapter – 3).”

In Oshodhara, before every Samadhi program interview is taken in a much disciplined way and only selected disciples are given entry. Only the disciples, who are willing to observe Panch Mahavrat, get admission; so the meditation conductors need not get disappointed. Their crowd won’t decrease
